What income does each visa ask for?
These 2026 tables show the Non-Lucrative minimum and our conservative Digital Nomad planning amounts. Both increase with household size. Confirm the Digital Nomad requirement with your filing office.

Your work and income help identify the route to check. The two visas side by side sets out the rest of the difference.
What can this check tell you?
One of 8 answers, and every one of them ends somewhere you can act on. Here they are in advance, with the rule behind each.
- Your application from Spain needs a closer look
- An ordinary first Non-Lucrative visa starts at the competent consulate. Renewing an existing permit is a different procedure. If you are already in Spain and live on savings, passive income or a pension, we check your current permission before confirming where you can apply or which package fits.
- Your existing residence needs a closer look
- If you already hold Non-Lucrative residence, check whether you need a renewal or a change of route before choosing an initial-application package. UGE's current FAQ answers no to relying on prohibited remote work under an NLV for a teleworker application. Your permit and work history need individual review. Read the existing-residence guidance and sources.
- You don't need a visa
- An EU, EEA or Swiss passport already carries the right to live in Spain, so neither visa on this site applies. What is left is registration: the residency certificate, an NIE and the town-hall padrón.
- The Digital Nomad Visa could fit
- Your remote work and income point towards this route. The table gives a conservative planning amount; the full application still needs to meet your filing office's requirements. Income alone does not establish eligibility.
- The Non-Lucrative Visa fits
- Your income arrives whether you work or not, and it clears the Non-Lucrative floor above. The visa forbids work of any kind while you hold it, remote work for a foreign employer included, so it only fits money that does not depend on you working.
- Your Digital Nomad income needs a closer check
- Your bracket is below our planning amount. Some consulates publish lower amounts, and documented funds may help where earnings fall short. You can continue with your actual figures; check the applicable requirement and evidence with your filing office.
- The Non-Lucrative floor is above you, for now
- Your income is the right kind but the monthly figure falls short. Savings are the usual way past this: the rule reads on total funds covering the whole period applied for, which the Non-Lucrative page sets out in full.
- Your route is a different permit
- A job with a Spanish employer runs on a work permit the employer starts, and studying runs on a student visa the school's acceptance letter starts. Neither is one we prepare, and the check says so instead of selling you the nearest thing.
Nothing here is a decision about a person we have not met. If your situation has an edge to it (an early pension beside two consulting clients, a partner on a different passport), write to [email protected] and a person will read it.
